Acquisitions in the videoconferencing arena

Two acquisitions to report on today: First, VCON was scooped up last week by Israel-based Emblaze. This deal was reported in the Wainhouse Research bulletin that’s been sitting in my inbox unread most of the week. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Emblaze seems to dabble in a lot of things, VCON will give them a wedge (a small one) in the enterprise videoconferencing space. The other acquisition news of the week: Polycom is acquiring China-based DSTMedia, maker of videoconferencing endpoints, multi-point control units and other video-related gear (including a video wall server.) What does Polycom need with more endpoints? They don’t. They bought the company because it’s based in China and provides them with a local development team familiar with nuances of the natives and the country’s economy. Terms of that deal were not disclosed either, but it couldn’t be all that much since the company doesn’t have to note the transaction on its quarterly financials.
