Back with Akamai

Network World is back on the Akamai platform for our streaming media efforts. We were using Speedera, but since they’re now part of Akamai, we’ve migrated over to the new combined interface. The biggest plus is no more manual “akamaization” of meta files (.asx, .ram) using a DOS-based script. The Web interface handles it for you. There are still some minor differences to get used, but overall the whole Akamai interaction process seems much improved since we used them last. Couple notes on our move: The Windows Media and Real files were moved seamlessly – we didn’t have to change any thing on our end. The Flash stuff took a little bit more effort since it called differently by the Flash client/player. Fortunately, we don’t have a ton of Flash stuff (yet!). Thankfully, it was not a wholesale change in providers, which would have required re-uploading all of our files and redoing hundreds (thousands?) of links on networkworld.com.
