Google is apparently buying its way into the productivity applications game with the purchase of Writely, an online word processing app from a California startup called Upstartle. My colleague John Fontana has the details in this story.

True to form, Google had nothing to say about the deal yesterday even after Upstartle spilled the beans on its own Web site. This morning there is still no press release from Google.
