The Center for Technology in Government (CTG) at the University of Albany has issued a set of tools to help justice agencies better share data. The multi-year CTG project was funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, which is hoping the effort can save lives and money. The toolkit is designed to help organizations assess where they’re at in terms of their information sharing capabilities and how to move to the next level. As one program manager in California states in the press release on this news: “Many times, organizations jump into implementing a technology solution without doing the up front assessment to really understand and quantify the underlying business needs.” Check out the toolkit here.

I couldn’t help reflecting back to a piece we did last year on the court systems in Louisiana  in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and how better info sharing systems would have been a godsend.
