Now handles Big Data applications

Cleversafe, a cloud storage vendor that distributes data through the cloud, announced enhancements to its Cleversafe platform that make it more reliable and scalable for companies that are managing large collections of unstructured data for business analytics.

This market, called Big Data, can scale from hundreds of terabytes to exabytes of data used for business analytics or business intelligence applications.

A McKinsey Group report concluded that 80% of the data is unstructured (this is nothing new) and that the growth of data which will amount to 10x every five years, is putting data at risk for loss and causing performance problems.

Cleversafe makes a distributed storage network it called dsNet that now supports VMware vSphere, allowing its Accesser and Slicestor software to run in a virtual machine environment. The Slicestor 2210 appliance now supports Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives, as well as Simple Object over HTTP and the Amazon S3 interface.

In addition when disks fail in a Slicestor appliance, data will be migrated automatically to other drives. The Manager application has also been enhanced with new interactive graphs that allow the administrator to retrieve information about the dsNet system.

Big Data requires specialized storage systems that understand how data is stored. The scalability of Cleversafe’s dsNet is perfect for Big data applications, which not only consume a large amount of storage, but require quick access to data.

Enhancements to the Cleversafe platform are expected to be available by the end of this month.
