New multi-level cell (MLC) drive for data center implementations
Intel last week introduced a new multi-level cell (MLC) solid state drive, the Intel SSD 710 Series for data center deployments.
The 25nm flash drive is available in 100G-, 200G- and 300GB capacities; it has a SATA interface. The 710 replaces the Intel X25-E Extreme SSD, a single-level cell (SLC) drive. The drive uses Intel High Endurance Technology (HET) to provide endurance and performance.
The 710 achieves 1.1PB write endurance and 2,700 IOPS on random 4KB writes. For 4KB random reads, it delivers 38,500 IOPS.
In addition the 710 features power-loss data protection, AES Encryption and temperature monitoring and logging. The Intel SSD 710 starts at $649 for the 100GB version.
Separately, Anobit announced more Genesis SSDs for network and direct attached storage. The new Genesis SSDs perform at 70,000 IOPS on random read using 4KB blocks and 40,000 IOPS for writes using 4KB blocks. They have an endurance of 50,000 program erase cycles.
The Genesis-T series is a 2.5 inch 6Gbps SATA 3.0 SSD and the Genesis-S series is a 2 .5 inch 6Gbps SAS 2.0 compliant SSD. Both are available in 100G, 200G and 400GB configurations.
Further, LSI demonstrated a new WarpDrive at the Intel Developers Forum last week. The WarpDrive2 perform 340,000 random read IOPs and with acceleration cache 1.2 million random read IOPs.
According to a recent survey from the Storage Networking Industry Association and Storage Strategies NOW, 32% of the respondents are implementing solid state drives or high-speed memory platforms and 32% are evaluating the SSD platforms available.
