Bloomberg reports of possible rival bids for data mining and analytics company
Will Cisco make a counter offer on IBM’s $1.7 billion bid for data warehousing company Netezza? That possibility was raised in a Bloomberg article today analyzing the deal.
Data storage and mining is a red hot market right now, what with all of the jockeying for position in the data center. Once the IBM/Netezza deal was announced, Teradata’s stock soared 7.5%, according to the Bloomberg piece.
Teradata is also a data warehousing firm that, like Netezza, has also been subject to takeover speculation. Indeed, Oppenheimer & Co. recently published a bulletin on likely takeovers in the data center storage and retrieval space, which we published here, after HP outbid Dell for 3Par.
As for Cisco, the company would not comment for Bloomberg on whether it would counter IBM’s offer for Netezza. Bloomberg also mention Dell and HP as possible bidders for the company.
