I have just watched Steve Jobs announce the iPad at MacWorld and it looks good. We thought it would be iSlate or iTablet but iPad is just right. As usual, Apple have hit the market on the head. Even if the announcer on CNBC starting thinking of feminine products…yikes! I had predicted that it would be a large iPod Touch and that is just what it is. But that’s a good thing. The iPod Touch is a great device with a superb touch screen UI. In fact, all the apps that run on the iPod Touch and iPhone will work on the iPad. That’s a great selling point for existing Apple users and software developers. Tablet PC’s have been around for years but have never quite implemented a UI that does not need a stylus. Leave it to the creativity of Apple to do just that. As always, the Apple brand will take this product to success. I was in WalMart recently and there are a myriad of MP3 players on sale but which one does my daughter want? The iPod Nano. They have captured the market and continue to lead. I have been testing out the Kindle as an eBook device and have been very pleased with it. For what it is intended to be the Kindle does very well. It is for eBooks. There is no touch screen, no color but I am very happy with it. It is for reading – even in bright daylight and with ultra low power usage – it is a green device. While the iPad can be used as an eBook device I am sure, it will require significant battery power and we’ll see how it reads by sunlight. But it can do so much more including touch sensitive browsing, TV, YouTube etc etc. So it will be a success in our world. I am looking forward to testing it out. Just like the iPod, the iPhone and the iPod Touch, the iPad will be a great device. cheers Brian
