If a recent report from the analytics firm Distmo is any indication, the iPad may very well be the Kindle killer some are already touting it to be.

Distimo is a mobile app analytics firm based out of the Netherlends, and they recently emailed VentureBeat a chart breaking down the 150,000+ apps available in the iTunes App Store, and the results were pretty revealing.
For some time now, games have represented the largest proportion of apps on iTunes, but over the past few weeks, and presumably in response to Apple’s iPad announcement, the number of book titles on iTunes has been catching up quickly and now number over 27,000. What more proof do you need that publishers are really excited about the potential of the iPad?
If the iPad turns out to be a solid e-book reader, and by all accounts it will, there’s a good chance that the iPad will become as synonymous with e-books as the iPod is with music.
The prospects of the iPad taking off and stealing some of the Kindle’s thunder seems to have Amazon shaking in their boots. They recently acquired a company specializing in touchscreen technology, presumably to spruce up the Kindle which isn’t exactly the sexiest piece of hardware around.
