Microsoft Active Directory made its debut on Feb.17, 2000
Ten years ago this week, Microsoft debuted its first network directory with the official release of Windows 2000. Back then, Microsoft was late to the directory game — which had already been mastered by Novell, Banyan, Sun and others – but determined to make up for lost time. Today, Active Directory runs in more than 90% of the world’s 2,000 biggest companies, while the rest of the market picks up the leftovers.
