Service provider router and switch business grows 33% from last year
Cisco increased its service provider router revenue by 6% sequentially in the first quarter and 33% from last year, according to Q1 2010 data from Infonetics Research. The report, which tracks service provider IP/Ethernet/ATM routers and switches, found the market to have contracted 5% in Q1 from Q4, ’09, to $2.95 billion.
However, it is up 14% from last year. Carrier Ethernet switch revenue was up 8% sequentially and 22% over last year, Infonetics found.
The market in North America was up 1.5% from Q4. In Q4, the market gained 18%. On an annual basis, the North American service provider switch and router market was up 29% in Q1.
Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and Huawei posted revenue declines in Q1, Infonetics found. Both Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson had component and part supply challenges in the quarter, according to the firm.
Tellabs and NEC also posted gains in IP routers in the quarter.
Juniper’s revenue slipped 2% sequentially in Q1 but they picked up 1% of market share, according to Infonetics. Other router vendors that had down quarters all lost some points of share.
