Compliance requirements vary by vertical industry

Concerns over data-leak prevention and e-discovery are universal, according to Nemertes: Every organization is susceptible to litigation (e-discovery) and leakage of sensitive data (DLP). For DLP, Nemertes finds that compliance requirements vary by vertical industry and by global status with two of the greatest motivators being compliance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The result is 66% of financial-service organizations and 40% of healthcare organizations are using DLP.

We also find that nearly 40% of organizations with global operations are using DLP vs. approximately 23% of organizations solely based in the United States. This tells us that concern of data leakage from foreign operations is a motivator to invest in DLP technology.
