What would make you pay $24 to upgrade from a service you otherwise get for free?
LinkedIn has added a new feature to all profiles that it calls “save—-profile.” This allows you to add the profile to a list you have created or one that LinkedIn has created. You can also add some notes.
Below is a screen shot of what the new feature looks like. You can have it for 30 days free, but if you like it, you’ll have to pay for the upgrade to continue to use it.
I’ve poked around LinkedIn and have come to the conclusion that, as useful as this site is, it doesn’t do enough to entice users to upgrade from free version. I understand LinkedIn is trying by coming up with more feature but a feature such as this makes me wonder about that site. People can just save the profile to a folder in a Internet browser. People can already add notes under the contact information, too, so there really is not a lot there for people who are familiar with the site to get excited about.
If LinkedIn was really trying to make money it would move to an entire subscription model, say charging everyone $9.99 per month. I would pay that for the service but oddly, I would not pay the company $24 for any of the upgrades it has thought up so far.
What feature would you like to see added to LinkedIn that would be a real game changer, help you use the site more, or make you crack open your wallet?
