SQL Server
It’s just over a month since the PASS Summit 2009 finished. The DVDs of all the sessions haven’t been mailed out yet. I’m looking forward to that. I am also looking forward to the New Year and the next PASS Summit 2010 again back in Seattle. The attraction of Seattle is obvious. With Redmond just down the road, Microsoft can commit to sending hundreds of SQL Server developers to the conference. They have to wear similar color shirts so that they can be grabbed by attendees at the conference and asked difficult questions. Of course, I am being facetious and the process is actually a healthy one, appreciated from both sides – vendor and customer – with benefits to both. The PASS organization is independent of Microsoft, which is important, but obviously its membership is keen to see SQL Server improve. If the conference moves to Orlando, Microsoft would not be able to send quite so many folks to the conference and that rich interaction would be missing. We’ll see how many years PASS can stick with the formula, but I for one will continue to book my November trip to Seattle well in advance to get the best deals from the east coast.
