This software makes a very annoying task easy to handle.
One task I always dreaded when running on the backend systems, was making sure everyone shutdown and disconnected from the network. Now there are ways to disconnect users without taking down their systems.But if you are doing a server upgrade you might as well shutdown. Another issue is restarts…how many times do you tell a user you need to restart after this update. They yes you to death and never restart, then of course you have the system that crashes because another update has been done without restarting from the first update.
When I was working in the corporate world there were a few solutions to this problem. Most run via a script or call for you shutting down one at a time.
RemShutdown is a very cool GUI based solution that allows you to easily shutdown one, a group, or all the computers in your network remotely. Simply add the systems via the IP address or using a text file. The program allows you to force network disconnects and you can choose to reboot after the shutdown.
You have the option of customizing the shutdown message and you can set a delay (in secs.). If you need to stop the shutdown for some critical reason, like your CEO calling threatening to fire you if he does not get to finish his million dollar presentation, then you can simply abort the shutdown.
RemShutdown is a neat inexpensive way to take a tedious task and make it enjoyable.
