I’ve been busy fixing daylight savings time issues with Cisco Type A phones this week. Cisco Type A phones have an issue with daylight savings in Cisco Unified Communications Manger versions after 5.1. There is currently not a firmware fix for this issue. Cisco’s workaround is to configure a new date and time group with a time zone that will reflect the time one hour past the current time. Since I was configuring devices in the Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone (GMT-5), I configured a new date and time group with a time zone of GMT-4 which will display the time as one hour later (DST). Since the problem only effects Cisco Type A phones, I could not modify the existing device pools date and time group. The customer’s device pools included both Cisco type A and type B phones. Cisco type A phones include the following devices: • 7910 • 7912 • 7905 • 7940 • 7960 I copied each of the 38 customer device pools that the customer and changed the name of each device pool. Each new device pool was assigned to the newly created GMT-4 date and time group. I then used the Bulk Administration Tool to search for each of the 38 device pools where the Device Type contained 7940 and the device pool matched the particular device pool I needed to reassign. I chose the Reset phone option and assigned the new device pool. Run later is selected by default and I did not change this option. Run later uses the bulk provisioning service (BPS) to schedule the change during a lower call volume period. The job scheduler in the bulk administration menu is used to assign the 38 job start times and activate the jobs. I changed the job start time to 11pm on Saturday night and activated all of the jobs.
