PC vendors, with Microsoft’s consent, will reportedly allow enterprise users to downgrade to XP, blogger Mary Jo Foley reports. AppleInsider ran a story this weekend that discussed HP’s plans to allow buyers of new Windows 7 machines to get XP. According to Microsoft sources named in Foley’s story, users who purchase volume licenses can — and always have had the ability to — downgrade to ANY older version of the operating system — even Windows 2000, if they so chose.
