Cisco is in the top 10 of the nation’s 50 greenest companies, according to data released this week by the Environmental Protection Agency. Cisco is No. 9 on that list, which is topped by Intel.
The EPA’s Green Power Partnership project compiled the list from leading purchasers of “green” power in the country among Fortune 500 companies, local, state and federal governments, and colleges and universities. Purchase figures are based on annualized partner contract amounts in kilowatt-hours, not on calendar year totals.
In addition to Cisco and Intel, the top 10 list includes Dell Computer, at No. 4. Pepsi, Kohl’s Department Stores, Whole Foods Market, Johnson & Johnson, US Air Force and the City of Houston round out the top 10.
Other high-tech firms on the list include Sprint Nextel, at No. 38, Sony at 40, Motorola at 44 and AMD at 46.
