John Cox reports that organizations are looking in their wiring closets and finding lots of idle Ethernet ports. Apparently, wireless networks are becoming so commonly used that wired connections are being displaced. The possibility of this happening has been discussed for years, as Wi-Fi continues to offer higher speeds. But it raises security questions, and one has to wonder if it’s worth the trade-off for the added flexibility of wireless.
