Quinnipiac swaps out for video, service and cost considerations
File this one under, current-economy-a-good-time-to-consider-alternatives. Quinnipiac University in Connecticut is replacing its Cisco network with 3Com.
Not a huge project — less than $1 million, according to sister pub Computerworld — but nonetheless vital as Quinnipiac looks for an affordable way to support growing video traffic on its network. The school will install several 3Com H3C data center switches and more than 100 H3C edge switches to upgrade the network, which is used by 8,000 students in addition to faculty and staff.
3Com is re-energizing itself for another run at the global large enterprise switching market after a couple of hiccups over the past decade. This deal can’t hurt.
