Microsoft, Nokia partnerships aims to do battle with Google

Microsoft and Nokia announced today a partnership that will eventually put a free version of Office-based productivity apps onto Nokia’s handsets on Nokia’s Symbian operating system. Symbian for the most part competes with Windows Mobile.

If these Office applications perform well, this partnership is all kinds of smart for both Microsoft and Nokia, who are being creamed in the battle with the iPhone and are also keeping an eye on up-and-comer Android. IDG News Service reports:

Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will begin working together immediately to design, develop and market productivity applications for mobile professionals, bringing an application called Microsoft Office Mobile to Nokia’s Symbian devices, they said in a press statement. They will also do the same for other Microsoft communications, collaboration and device-management software.
