Hold CCIE's to letter of the law, no passing on test information in boot camps.
I have received a few emails asking my opinion on the CCIE Storage Certification, so I here is my opinion. Until Cisco brings all testing for the written in house then nothing matters. I wish that all of the written test moved to a oral in front of a Cisco employee, that would fix some issues with people cheating.
They need to take a stance on everyone who passes on lab or test information to others and kick them out of the CCIE Certification. A new rules that says that if you are a CCIE you are not allowed to be involved in any testing centers, exam crams or lab boot camps. That would also fix the problem. It would make people learn on their own and stop the boot camps. I know some people will not like my opinion but let’s face it, if you have someone who has taken a test or a lab test then gives you all the information you need it helps. Even if it is not the exact information it is close enough to still call it cheating.
But for Cisco to have this CCIE Certification does not really mean to much, as Compellent, EMC and HP all make better products. Employers need to remember that just because someone has a certification does not mean they can do the job better than someone who has been doing the job for 5 to 10 years.
Take experience and time on the job over certifications any day.
From Cisco:
Cisco is pleased to introduce CCIE Storage Lab Testing for candidates taking their CCIE Storage exams at the Cisco offices in Sydney, Australia and San Jose, California. CCIE Storage Lab Testing will begin in August and be initially conducted on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Cisco Sydney, Australia testing center and on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Cisco San Jose testing center. These two new locations, added to exam seating available for the CCIE SAN Lab Testing at the Cisco RTP lab location in North Carolina, improve the overall worldwide availability of the Storage exam track.
