Holder of visual voicemail patents claims $118 million in damages
Klausner Technologies said today that it is suing Cisco and Avaya for alleged patent infringement. The company asserts that the vendors’ visual voicemail products violate Klausner’s visual voicemail patents.
This is Judah Klausner’s company. Klausner is a legit inventor who was at one time best known for his work in bringing the PDA to the world but in recent years has been labeled a patent troll. His company has initiated patent infringement suits against Apple, Google, Citrix, LGE, and now add Cisco and Avaya to the list.
Klausner Technologies owns 25 patents. It says it has 24 customers who have licensed its visual voicemail technology, including major U.S. and European wireless service providers, cell phone manufacturers, cable/VOIP providers. His patents cover basic visual voicemail features in which subscribers selectively listen to their messages via their cell phones or computers.
He’s got a good track record of winning, too. Those who have settled include Google, LG and Citrix. Klausner is seeking about $118 million in damages from this suit against Cisco and Avaya.
