endif; ?>In this blog, we will take a look at the class of service (CoS) requirements for integrating a voice mail solution with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM). The integration of the voicemail system includes a number of configuration elements which can be a bit confusing. In the last blog, we covered the CSS application of call forwarding rules on the Cisco IP phone. Many deployments configure the call forward no answer (CFNA) and call forward busy (CFB) directory number (DN) of the Cisco IP phone to forward calls to the voicemail server. The call forward CSS of each call forwarding option must be configured with a CSS that includes the hunt pilot (HP) that matches the voicemail profile. The voicemail pilot number is the phone number to be dialed to access the voicemail server. The pilot number should align with a direct inward dialing (DID) phone number on the PSTN to allow users to remotely access the voicemail system. The VM pilot number needs to be configured with a CSS that will allow access to the voicemail partition used on the voicemail ports. Each voicemail port is an individual phone number that is assigned to a partition. The voicemail pilot number is associated with a voicemail profile and the voicemail pilot number should match the hunt pilot configuration which will be provisioned with the same phone number as the voicemail pilot. A large voicemail deployment with 72 ports would have 72 voicemail ports with independent configurations. Each voicemail port is configured with a partition that is only accessible by the voicemail pilot number CSS since users will not dial the voicemail ports directly. The voicemail ports can be configured with numbers outside the DID range to maintain DID numbers registered with the PSTN provider. The voicemail ports will also have CSS configurations that will be used to dial message waiting on and off indicators (MWI) on CUCM. The CSS will also restrict the message notification and transfer features in the voicemail server. It is advisable to restrict the dialing capabilities of the voicemail server. Cisco Unity and Cisco Unity Connection have restriction tables that can be used to restrict individual users. CSS configurations in CUCM apply to the entire voicemail system. The MWI on and MWI off numbers are normally configured in an MWI partition that only the voicemail ports have access to. If end users have the ability to dial the MWI ports, the MWI state of the phone may not reflect the true voicemail status. We will continue our conversation on Calling Search Spaces in the next blog.
