* IMlogic offers its IMlogic Inside program to messaging security vendors

A large number of messaging security vendors – including those that offer software, appliances and managed services – are rapidly expanding their security portfolios either through acquisition or internal development. The leading vendors are no longer offering just anti-virus and anti-spam capabilities, but are also offering, or will offer, anti-spyware, e-mail encryption, outbound content scanning, policy management, connection blocking, e-mail and instant messaging archiving, disaster recovery and other capabilities. In short, the leading vendors are becoming single-source suppliers of everything that an organization would need to protect inbound and outbound messaging.

As part of this trend was last week’s announcement by IMlogic of its “IMlogic Inside” program. This offering allows messaging security vendors to add IM security to their existing products by licensing the IMlogic Security Engine.  The product includes IM protocol management, integration with the IMlogic Threat Center and a series of development APIs. The IMlogic offering integrates with the leading consumer IM services, as well as enterprise offerings from Jabber, IBM and Microsoft.

Early licensees of the IMlogic Inside program include Proofpoint, Singlefin and Postini, as well as a large U.S. telecommunications provider.

The IMlogic offering is interesting for a couple of audiences. For vendors, it provides relatively easy access to a bolt-on capability that will allow them to add IM threat management to their list of messaging security capabilities. For customers of these vendors, it provides access to IM protection capabilities through an existing capability without having to deploy and manage a separate system for IM threat management.

In other recent IMlogic news, the company released software designed to thwart infection and the spread of attacks (see “IMlogic offers messaging virus filter”).
