Scientific-Atlanta is dead and Cisco Service Provider Video Technology Group is its reincarnation. According to a report in Multichannel.com, the new name also comes with a reshuffle upstairs for the 56-year-old company. Day-to-day management of the group will be led by Tony Bates (pictured), Cisco SVP and general manager of the company’s service provider group. Scientific-Atlanta CEO Jim McDonald will talk a back seat – or as Cisco euphemistically describes it as being “in more of an advisory role.”
The VTG arm will be managed by two execs: Michael Harney, corporate SVP and president of Cisco’s subscriber networks unit, and Dwight Duke, corporate SVP and president of transmision network systems, reports Multichannel.com. Both report to Bates, as well as to Cisco SVP Pankak Patel, general manager of the service provider group.
Cisco says no execs are leaving the former Scientific-Atlanta – just that the exec washroom is going to be a little more crowded than usual.
