This article in the India Times is a bit sensationalist. About all I can glean from it is that India is not left out of China’s wide spread cyber espionage efforts. It helps one imagine the scale of China’s operations. In order to carry out consistent scanning, bot recruiting, and targeting of defense information systems in the US , Germany , UK , and India, the Chinese government must have a tremendous investment in cyber warfare capability. I wonder what they use for managing all of the data they are capturing?
It may be a good time for cyber defense people from all of these target countries to convene a workshop. I would title it “First annual counter-Sino-cyber workshop”. They could share with each other common techniques, tools, and methodologies they had observed being used by the Chinese. From that they could determine some good defensive measures to deploy. They could also help solidify the accusations against China and perhaps begin the process of a diplomatic response to these attacks.
