While writing a post on recent datacenter customer experiences, Chuck Goolsbee sent me a link to his coverage of Peer1’s outage, the result of an underground fire that took out power in all of downtown Vancouver.
- CTV reports that power outage was caused by underground fire melting 14 high voltage cables.
- Peer1 responded to the situation rather approprately and professionaly, but it’s customers were pretty brutal. More brutal still were it’s less scrupulous local competitors who spammed the forums with “one-day only signup specials”.
- WebHostingTalk was pretty quiet, and people were mostly concerned about not being able to flirt online.
