Not that the published results of a study commissioned by ShoreTel would put it in a bad light but if you’re interested in a test between ShoreTel and Cisco’s unfied communications systems read on. According to the test conducted by Tolly Group, ShoreTel’s UC system required up to 45% less energy than Cisco’s Unified Communications Manager. Testing and analysis was conducted across three classes of enterprise deployments, according to the ShoreTel press release.
According to the ShoreTel release:
* In a large-scale network with 1,500 users at a headquarters site, regional office and branch office, ShoreTel’s UC system was calculated to use 37% less power.
* In a medium network with 350 users in a central headquarters and 19 branch office sites, ShoreTel’s UC system was projected to consume 45% less power.
* In a self-contained single site office with 65 users, ShoreTel’s UC system was calculated to use 44% less power.
Tolly also did a comparison test of monochromatic GbE-based IP phones. ShoreTel phones required 60% less power than its Cisco counterpart in idle state, according to ShoreTel. The ShoreTel equipment also used 33% less power in active mode during a phone call.
