Nevermind the SDK delays and reported developer angst. Taiwanese phone manufacturer HTC has confirmed that its Android phone will be available to original device manufacturers by the end of this year. And that leads Nicholas Gray at the Android Guys to speculate on what the new phone’s user interface might look like.
Gray says the new HTC Android interface will likely be a lot like HTC’s vaunted TouchFlo 3D, but without the performance hit. TouchFlo 3D currently runs atop the Windows Mobile interface, which can get clunky. Since it’s one UI slapped on top of another, it tends to consume resources, with some users reporting memory consumption of up to 65%.
But Android has no UI constraints. With TouchFlo 3D the default UI, right out of the box, the performance is bound to be better. And with UI performance improvements come application performance improvements. As Gray says: “The implementation and performance should be a lot better than that seen on the HTC Touch Diamond,” which is HTC’s flagship model to date.
