So who are you going to believe? A market share research firm (IDC) or a vendor? VMware officials objected to an assertion by IDC that it has lost some of its industry-leading market share to Microsoft. The company instead claims that Microsoft’s new Hyper-V product has barely made a dent in sales. IDC is sticking by its analysis, however, and several assertions made by a VMware blogger appear to be untrue. VMware principal systems engineer Mike DiPetrillo said Microsoft sponsored the report – not true, IDC says. The brouhaha is sure to fuel more animosity between rivals VMware and Microsoft.
