This week saw two major changes in the Telephony Applications Space with the investment by Elevation Partners in Palm and Avaya taken private by Silverlake Partners. Where as Palm has always been an application platform and it looks like the investment is to further help Palm make the transition and more effectively compete with the wealth of new application platforms including the new Apple IPhone it needs to make some aggressive moves in order to retake the lead in innovation in this space. Avaya is also an application services platform for IP communications. It’s core business is actually contact center business and the delivery of solutions to high volume customer interactions. The market for these services including Event Alerting and Notification, and Quality Assurance and Compliance systems are only going to increase for companies like Cistera, Interactive Intelligence, Aspect and Genesys among others. The times are getting more and more interesting.
