The North American Market has a ways to go to catch up to the adoption of consumer VoIP in the EU:

More than 14 million Europeans subscribed to VoIP services in 2006, raising the total number of users to 19 million by the end of last year, said In-Stat. The research firm forecast that the number of European subscribers would almost double to about 34 million by the end of this year. The U.S., in comparison, added just 4 million VoIP users last year, for a total of 10.6 million subscribers. The number was expected to grow about 50 per cent to 15.9 million by the end of 2007.
