A reader of InfoWorld’s Gripe Line has taken Linksys to task over one of its Linksys wireless VPN router. According to the reader’s tale as reported by InfoWorld’s Gripe Line, the router “can’t support even a fraction of the 50 VPN tunnels it’s supposed to do, and that no one at Linksys seems to care.”
The reader is an independent systems integrator whose customer wanted its Linksys WRV54G to support its entire staff of 16 mobile users. Trying to upgrade the unit to support that many users from the three remote users it was original setup to do was where the fun began for the reader, according to InfoWorld.
According to the reader:
“I called Linksys to find out the process to upgrade the unit to 50 users. Nowhere in the documentation did I find that any special parts or software (or additional cost) was required to use the 50 clients and there is no asterisk by the 50-VPN support either. This is where the fun started. Online tech support chat referred me to sales. My first call to sales results in getting transferred after a couple of long holds and bounces around to different folks, I get to a nice ‘product specialist’ who could ‘certainly’ help me and promised a call back shortly.”
You can read the reader’s entire experience at Infoworld’s Gripe Line site.
The result: The reader had no choice but to get his client another router, reports InfoWorld.
