3CX CEO Nick Gale believes there is a market for another Windows based PBX according to TMCNet. I don’t disagree that there is a market, what I have problems with is another low end PBX. This is because vendors like Cistera can only afford to support large market share PBX systems like Cisco, Nortel, Avaya etc. Low end vendors will not get the benefit of the capability that 3rd party integration provides in businesses (and don’t talk to me about click-to-call in MS Office)…. However he goes onto say:
I think SIP is the main driver in the acceleration of the IP Telephony revolution. I think the standard will continue to gain power and soon enough it will beat and hopefully eliminate the proprietary Skype protocol. Once that is done I think the telecom revolution will accelerate even more.
Hmmm, No, Skype has critical mass and is not going away. What SIP is being used for is interoperability and interaction with PBXs. Granted SIP endpoints are here but not all SIP is created equal and some are more equal than others to borrow from Orwell.
