EMC Voices Quality Concerns

As I have mentioned previously, reporting and management tools for Voice implementations are becoming more common, EMC is no exception:

The Smarts VoIP Performance Manager and Smarts VoIP Performance Reporter will deliver customers real-time information about phone extensions and calls, voice quality, telephone service availability and much more. In addition, to provide users with the most comprehensive reporting, the solutions also detail route patterns, keeping availability at a productive and manageable level.

The reason that I have steadfastly stated that you need third party tools like this to manage VoIP implementations is because the QOS is a function of all components of the voice network, no just the VoIP system itself. For example simply knowing that you have a jitter problem on your network does not itself help. What is interesting is what the elements between the devices are doing that is interesting. What I am interested in is seeing some trend and analysis tools for voip traffic. From my experience is that to better understand your network you need to see it over time, not a snap shot. These sorts of tools can only help.
