Showing that Cisco can be as hip as the next dude (and it doesn’t hurt to get your brand recognized by tomorrow’s entrepreneurs), Cisco is collaborating with MTV-owned college student television network mtvU to offer students up to $250,000 in grants as part of their digitalincubator.net efforts.

The two firms Wednesday launched five online applications developed by “digital pioneers within the college audience”:

* RapHappy from students at New York University is an online and mobile phone-based hip hop community which enables members to record, collaborate and search for rap without any need for software or file uploading.

* Osiris from students at Brown University is an MP3 visualizer using song lyrics to dynamically generate music videos using images from Flickr and other sources.

* Casablanca from students at New York University is a mobile-phone-based “ice-breaker party game that combines elements of social networking, espionage and alternative reality gaming.”

* Selectricity from students at MIT is an online communal ranking technology that enables users to rank choices in order of preference and the software generates a winner that is most acceptiable to the group as a whole.

* UCLA’s How Do I Say This? is an interactive advice wiki, where users help script and create video messages for people with problems that have left them at a loss for words.
