Earlier this year, Seagate released their Momentus Full Disk Encryption drive. I thought that was pretty cool, as it made a wonderful addition to the FDE solutions current on the market. After all, the Momentous drive gives me hardware based encryption where most other solutions were software based. As we all know pushing encryption down to the hardware level has its benefits (speed and stability being two of the major ones).
BTW – I’m not advocating hardware or software at this point. I happen to think that both solutions have a gap that they currently fit.
Anyhow… back to BlackArmor. On January 6th, at CES, Seagate announced yet another FDE drive. This time the drive is a 160GB portable drive. While there are other drives on the market it is nice to see that Seagate is expanding their offerings.
