On2 Technologies, which developed the video codec behind Flash 8 and the FlixPro encoder tool, has released a new SDK for those that want to add browser-based Flash video encoding to an existing service. The tool allows end users to drag raw video to a browser window and have it encoded in Flash 8 format. On2 sees any content sharing service that wants to make encoding video simpler without the need for hefty centralized processing needs. All the video is encoded locally on the end user’s machines. On2 will also be releasing a turnkey version of the product mid-Q1’06, according to Douglas McIntyre, chairman, president and CEO of On2.
