HP on Monday last week at its HP Discover Conference in Las Vegas announced several new storage products that are part of its Converged Infrastructure portfolio.
Among them are HP StorageWorks G2 X5000 Network Storage Gateway that front-ends Fibre Channel and iSCSI storage. The X5000 uses a clustered file system to provide CIFS, NFS and HTTP support to existing SANs. With the X5000, nodes can be added to the cluster or removed from it without disruption. Nodes can be scaled for performance or capacity and as many as 16 nodes can be clustered on Windows or Linux. The maximum file system size is 32TB under Windows and 128TB under Linux. As many as 128 Windows-based file systems can exist; 512 can exist under Linux.
The X5000 supports attachment to HP StorageWorks MSAs, EVAs, XP Disk Arrays and EMC, IBM, Oracle, DataDirect and NetApp arrays. Further it works with HP StorageWorks Data Protector for backup and data recovery.
Also new are enhancements to the X9000 scale-out NAS system, which also can be scaled for performance or capacity. Among enhancement are the addition of software snapshots that use namespace versioning, data archiving features such as file immutability, retention period at the file level and data validation. Included also are support for NFS, CIFS, HTTP/S, WebDAV, FTP/S and NDMP and support for the 3PAR and X9300 Network Storage Gateway. The X9000 now also is available in a smaller capacity and supports 6Gb SAS.
The company also introduced the HP P6000 EVA, which offers thin provisioning and Dynamic LUN Migration software, as well as 8Gb Fibre Channel, 10Gb iSCSI and FCoE support.
