Caringo's CAStor 5.0, CommVault and Scality partner
Caringo last week announced CAStor 5.0, its object storage software, which has been enhanced to support named objects, multi-tenancy, dynamic caching, and remote data replication.
CAStor 5.0 adopts user-assigned symbolic naminc to allow it to work with emerging public cloud storage services. The named objects are focused on applications that require a self-generated name to store a file or object. The product also supports the hosting of multiple departments or divisions within a physical private cloud without multiple hardware infrastructures. Each tenant can have its own domain and multiple domains can exist within the same storage infrastructure. This multi-tenancy feature is unlike Amazon S3 which offers only one domain.
In a domain, objects can be stored in multiple buckets, each which can be protected. IT administrators can provide Access Control Lists (ACL) at the object level.
CAStor 5.0 also enables dynamic caching to speed the read access of objects. Frequently accessed objects are stored in RAM on nodes across the cluster to reduce latency and speed performance.
CommVault also partnered with Scality, a manufacturer of object-based storage, recently to offer CommVault’s Simpana software on Scality’s RING storage platform in Europe. Through the partnership, users will be able to have private cloud deployments using CommVault Simpana to protect and backup the data on their premises.
The Scality RING platform is built on industry standard servers. Each node in the ring shares a portion of the storage pool. By monitoring other nodes and constantly replicating data to other nodes, a self-healing network is created.
