Fruit of Cloverleaf Communications acquisition
Dot Hill on Monday rolled out a set of unified storage appliances that combine storage area network and network attached storage technology.
Called AssuredUVS Appliances, they virtualize storage volumes, aggregate arrays from other vendors and manage the unified storage pool from the same management interface.
Previously known as iSN, the AssuredUVS is available in Standard and Data Center models. AssuredUVS Standard is designed for midsized environments and come configured with 50TB of storage capacity. It can scale to a maximum of 150TB. The Data Center model can scale to capacities of as much as 6PB.
The AssuredUVS support Fibre Channel or iSCSI and CIFS or NFS. Software included with the appliances include snapshots, thin provisioning, storage tiering, replication, mirroring and data migration. They support Windows, Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Mac OS, VMware vSpereand Microsoft Hyper-V. In addition, the AssuredUVS platform can virtualize storage from Apple, EMC, Hitach Data Systems, HP, IBM, LSI, NetApp, Nexsan, Oracle, Promise, Xiotech and Xyratex.
The AssuredUVS appliances contain two controllers (Dell PowerEdge R610 servers), which handle all data and metadata that passes between the host servers and storage, allowing in-band security monitoring and policy administration.
The appliances are the result of Dot Hill’s acquisition of Cloverleaf Communications in January 2010.
AssuredUVS appliances are expected to be available through authorized resellers by the end of November starting at $63,360 for AssuredUVS Standard with dual controllers. Asynchronous Replication and NAS support are sold as additions to the base package.
