The company has deep roots in NAS, in TCP acceleration and in the SCSI protocol — its founder and present CEO Larry Boucher was also a founder of Adaptec (since acquired by PMC-Sierra) and of early NAS vendor Auspex. He is also credited with authoring the SCSI protocol standard.
Alacritech is announcing the ANX 1500, an appliance that increases the application performance, speed of data access and aggregate data throughput of NAS systems while maintaining the current storage infrastructure. The ANX 1500 differs from boxes from NetApp, which Alacritech claims have limited scalability and from NAS filers from EMC (Isilon) which require rip and replace architectures and struggle with small file performance.
The ANX 1500 is available with 1000BASE-T and 10GBASE-SR connections to the network and consists of a 2U server with 48GB of DRAM and support for up to as many as 20 200GB SSDs.
The ANX 1500 is expected to be available this month for $70,000 for 2TB appliance and $110,000 for a 4TB appliance.
