SEPATON on Monday this week enhanced its S2100-ES2 Series 1910/2910 deduplication and backup appliances with the addition of new software that doubles the ingest rate of backup data to 1500MBps per node or 43TB/hour over previous SEPATON models.
The new 6.0 software allows grids of as many as eight nodes and supports multi-tenancy, allowing it to be suitable for cloud computing. Using 64-bit Xeon processors, the SEPATON S2100-ES2 Series 1910 and 2910 also have improved power efficiency and support for Symantec’s NetBackup OpenStorage (OST) on 10Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel. The S2100-ES2 Series 1910 and 2910 are available now starting at $257,500. New 6.0 software will be available to SEPATON customers on maintenance contracts for no charge.
Nasuni, the creator of the Nasuni Filer for cloud storage, announced last week a new service that allows users to migrate files to cloud storage providers more easily. The 2.4 release of the Nasuni Filer allows the movement of large data sets to the cloud. It preserves existing ACLs and permissions and automatically adjusts the ingestion rate. Users can migrate multiple file servers by simply adding them as data sources to the Nasuni Filer. Third-party copy resources are no longer needed. The new migration service also includes audit logs.
And finally, HP in collaboration with Microsoft released two new appliances that are optimized for Microsoft applications. The HP Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance is optimized for SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse. The appliance, which consists of HP ProLiant DL360 and DL380 G7 servers and HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 Modular Smart Arrays, delivers 10x the throughput of other appliances and 100x faster query response. It scales to over 500TB of data and can execute queries in parallel across 120 processing cores.
HP has also introduced the HP E5000 Messaging Appliance for Microsoft Exchange, which allows migrations from Microsoft 2007 to Microsoft Exchange 2010. The Messaging Appliance is pre-configured and pre-sized for customers in either 1G or 2.5GB mailbox capacities.
