Axcient information corrected
Hitachi Data Systems this week at HIMSS in Orlando expanded its Hitachi Content Platform with the addition of the Hitachi Clinical Repository, aimed at healthcare providers and allowing them to improve patient care.
The Hitachi Clinical Repository uses metadata to improve the interoperability of clinical data and turn raw medical data and images into useful information. Resulting in a consolidated view of relevant patient information, the Clinical Repository lets healthcare organizations increase interoperability between different medical formats such as DICOM and HL/7, while improving access to data.
The Hitachi Clinical Repository (HCR) consolidates this data from different applications into a vendor neutral archive that encompasses all data and medical images, standardizes the different data formats from applications and provides the data to the electronic health record.
The Hitachi Content Platform works with the Hitachi NAS Platform powered by BlueArC, the Hitachi Discovery Suite and the Hitachi Content Platform. It indexes and performs metadata analysis of more than 50 document types and 400 e-mail extensions.
In other matters, I made some incorrect assumptions about the Axcient/HP relationship.
Axcient is a data protection as a service vendor which makes appliances available as enablers for cloud-based backup. The Axcient Data Protection Solution backs up as many as 100 Windows, Macintosh and Linux servers and simultaneously fails over as many as seven servers. Customers can sign up for the Axcient service for as little as $150 a month, with no charges upfront, which includes the rental of the on-premise appliance.
