E-series with SAN and NAS capability
Nexsan this week expanded its storage platform with the launch of the E-Series storage systems. Targeted for the mid-sized business, the E-Series is a NAS and SAN system that uses SAS and SSD drives to support business needs.
The E-Series consists of the E18, which accommodates SAS and SSD drives and attaches to the network via either Fibre Channel or iSCSI, and the E60, which is targeted at backup to disk and archive applications. The E60 has 60 drives in 4U of rack space. An additional expansion chassis is also available.
Also, the E18 is a 2U box with 18 SAS drives, supporting a capacity of 10.8 TB. It can be mixed with solid state drives and has two 8Gbps Fibre Channel and two 1Gbps iSCSI connection per each of its two controllers. The E60 supports a capacity of 120TB and has two 8Gbps Fibre Channel and two 1Gbps iSCSI connections per each of its two controllers.
The E-Series also incorporates a technology called Active Drawer Technology, which allows continuous operation when the drawer is opened for disk or fan service. And, they incorporate AutoMAID technology for disk spindown and power reduction.
Further, the E-Series RAID controller is 2x as fast as Nexsan’s previous controller. The boxes support dual active/active controllers. The E-Series are available now starting at $52,000 for the E60 with SATA drives and a single controller. The E18 with SAS drives and one controller starts at $45,000.
