EMC led in systems over $250,000
If you’ve got at least $250,000 burning a hole in your pocket for a new storage system, you are in the right crowd, IDC says.
IDC released is quarterly storage tracker study last week – it showed that systems with prices of $250,000 or more took a 30.2% market share by revenue in the fourth quarter of 2010. Of the storage vendors highlighted in the report, Hitachi Data Systems’ revenue increased 30% in the fourth quarter over 2009 results. NAS and iSCSI storage systems and NetApp and EMC led the market in storage sales.
Total sales of external disk storage came to $6.1 billion, an increase of 16.2% over the last year. And the amount of capacity shipped grew to 5,127PB, a 55.7% growth year over year.
NAS storage grew from over 21% in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 25.7% in the fourth quarter of 2010. And of the vendors tracked, EMC led with 26% revenue. IBM came in second with 16.3% and HP took third with 11.6%. NetApp, Hitachi Data Systems and Dell came in fourth and fifth (Hitachi and Dell tied).
Two recent storage acquisitions, Isilon and Compellent took 0.78% and 0.55% of the market.
In the NAS/iSCSI SAN market, external disk systems grew 21.7% since last year and accounted for $5.1 billion in revenues. EMC led with a 29.7% share, followed by IBM.
In other financial news, EMC’s CEO Joe Tucci took down $12.4 million for 2010, in a year that EMC rebounded from the financial downturn.
