Avere Systems and Marvell kicked off Storage Networking World in Santa Clara, Calif., this week with announcements of new products that use DRAM storage.
Avere introduced two new models of its FXT Series scale-out NAS appliances – the FXT 2550 and 2570. The FTX 2550 and 270 have faster Intel Xeon processors, more DRAM storage, six 1Gigabit Ethernet ports and dual 10G Ethernet copper and optical ports. The Avere FXT appliances reduce standed storage and eliminate performance bottleneck and with their current configurations are almost infinitely scalable.
The FXT 2550 includes 72GB of DRAM, 1GB of NVRAM and 3.6 TB of 15K SAS disk storage, six 1G Ethernet ports and two copper 10G Ethernet ports for $72,500. The FXT 2750 features the same configuration but substitutes the SAS disk tier for 512 GB of Single Level Cell SSD storage for $82,500.
Marvell rolled out the DragonFly Virtual Storage Accelerator, an adapter for servers, that plugs into the PCIe slot and enables 10x the IO performance in virtualized server environments. The DragonFly VSA allows connection to NAS, direct attached storage and SAN storage and features two levels of L1 and L2 cache composed of commodity SSD drives. It supports NFS, iSCSI, FCP, FCoE and SCSI.
In addition, Storage Strategies NOW and the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) announced the launch of an Solid State Drive and High Speed Memory IT Professionals Adoption Survey that will be included in a report released in June.
