A newcomer in the mid-range storage space, Huawei Symantec Technlogies, introduced last week at Storage Networking World in Santa Clara, Calif,. the Oceanspace T-Series storage arrays.
The T-Series SAN arrays offer automatic performance tuning, remote replication and data migration, while reducing power consumption. They support over 1,000 disk drives and connectivity via 8Gb Fibre Channel and 10Gb iSCSI. A Smart Cache technology optimizes performance by migrating data automatically to a solid state drive tier.
The T-Series management software allows policy-based operation to control disk spin-down, fan speed and CPU speed.
Four models of the T-Series are available – the Oceanspace S5500T, S5600T, S5800T and S6800T. The S5500T has as many as 288 SSD, SAS or SATA drives. The S5600T has 576 SSD, SAS, SATA or Fibre Channel drives. The S5800T has 1,152 SSD, SAS, SATA or Fibre Channel drives and the S6800T has 1,440 SSD, SAS, SATA or Fibre Channel drives.
Huawei Symantec will sell the T-Series through value-added resellers Condre Storage and SYNNEX.
Huawei Symantec is a joint venture of Huawei and Symantec that is headquartered in China. The company also has entry-level and high-end SAN systems and clustered NAS systems, as well as a cloud storage gateway and virtual tape library.
In other news, Riverbed and Nirvanix announced that they would pair their technologies to accelerate data into the cloud. Riverbed will integrate its Whitewater WAN acceleration appliance with Nirvanix’s REST API. With Whitewater, customers can point their backup server to the appliance and backup into the cloud.
