HP in a world of Hurdt
It’s impossible to overshadow the events at HP of this past weekend – suffice to say a dumbass move for HP’s ex-CEO Mark Hurd and his whatever-you-might-call ‘relationship’ with Jodie Fisher – but here’s what is happening this week in storage.
BlueArc this week announced the latest version of its file system for its Titan and Mercury NAS systems. SiliconFS 7.0 now has increased LUN support for larger scaling. The Titan will now scale from 4 to 8 petabytes to 8 to 16 petabytes under a single system. The Mercury grows from 2 to 4 petabytes to 4 to 8 petabytes. SiliconFS 7.0 is about increasing performance and efficiency. These systems with the enhanced SiliconFS file system will start shipping in August.
Mezeo Software, a cloud storage provider, also announced that its Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform 3.0, which includes the Mezeo Interoperability API, is now available. The Cloud Storage Platform and API allow interoperability of applications with Amazon S3, Google and Eucalyptus-based storage clouds. The API also now includes namespace access which allows application to use path-based naming rather than object storage unique identifiers.
